How to download YouTube videos with sound

Many YouTube downloaders give you a video without sound. That's because YouTube stores HD picture and audio as two separate streams. Here's how to get a normal MP4 with sound — plus MP3 and subtitles.

Download an MP4 with sound

  1. Copy the video or Shorts link (Share › Copy link).
  2. Paste it into our YouTube downloader and tap Get download links.
  3. In Video with sound, choose a quality. We merge the picture and audio on our server and send you one MP4.

Free downloads go up to 720p. 1080p, 1440p and 4K are available with Pro.

Which file should I choose?

  • H.264 — plays everywhere and saves to the iPhone Photos app. Recommended.
  • VP9 / AV1 — used for 1440p and 4K. Great quality in VLC or a desktop browser, but the iPhone Photos app won't import them.

Convert YouTube to MP3

Scroll to Audio and choose MP3. If you'd rather keep the original audio without re-encoding, download the M4A (AAC) file.

Download subtitles

Every uploaded subtitle language is listed under Subtitles, plus the auto-generated captions in the video's original language. They download as SRT files you can open in any player or editor.

What can't be downloaded?

Live streams (until they end), private and members-only videos, and age-restricted videos that require a login.
